I hope you will take my class so I can share what I feel networking really is and how it is not as complicated as made out to be, but it takes patience and perserverance.
The class will involve real life examples of networking and how connections I made led to opportunities and learning moments never expected. From these examples I will encourage class participants to share their experiences, questions on how a networking moment could have been better, and how each person needs to do a little self evaluation to know how to best network.
As a federal government auditor for 25 years I didn't have to network. The work was there everyday when getting to the office. I then decided to do the same type of audit work on a consulting level with a global accounting, tax, and auditing firm and then multiple consultant firms and law firms doing import and export compliance consulting as an independent contractor. I then saw networking differently since was now part of my daily responsibilities. It is a task that many times takes a long time to see the pay off. But I learned that I was also networking all along with many things in life. I learned more about how to network better and separate it from selling role. You have to network first before you can try to sell anything or help anyone in anyway.
